Course Title: The Art of Short Story Writing
Course Instructor: Gila Green
Course dates: Jan, 19, 26, Feb 2, Feb 9th
Tuesday mornings, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 pm
Course Description:
Get your creative story juices flowing!
This course is for anyone who wants to sharpen her short story writing skills with a view to publication. Though the focus is on short stories, the skill-based classes apply to novel writing. There will be an in-class writing assignment each week + instructor feedback.
- What is a short story? Short stories must have five elements: character, plot, conflict, location and theme.
- Literary Devices: Crucial tools in our writer’s toolkit. We will learn how to control our pace and deepen our theme with two invaluable devices.
- The most important thing: Why are you telling us this story? Who cares? Story vs. craft and why story always wins.
- The importance of Revision and the path to Publishing.
