The Inheritance

The Inheritance

Layne Fortunefield is a busy English teacher, eagerly anticipating the day when she can bid farewell to her sleazy boss, put her ex-con artist family behind her, and marry her long-distance boyfriend. But her quest to start a new life in Toronto takes an unexpected turn when a cryptic text arrives, refusing to fade into oblivion. The urgent message hints at imminent danger for her estranged brother. With her therapist conveniently on vacation, Layne finds herself grappling with a choice: will she turn a blind eye to her brother's peril and risk disappointing her fiancé, who accuses her of cold-heartedness? Or will she ignore her instincts and risk everything to prove to her boyfriend that she's overcome her past, and won't let her own brother down, even at the expense of her sanity?

Gila Green Author Editor Writing Teacher

Welcome to my site. I'm Gila Green. I've been writing, publishing, coaching, and editing for the last two decades and on this site I want to share my updates and thoughts about writing in general and specifically in Israel, where I write as a Canadian ex-pat and mother of five children. I also teach English as a Foreign Language to college students. Here you can find blog posts, videos about creativity, marketing, publishing, and monthly interviews with other authors. I invite you to sign up for my newsletter, check out my YouTube channel and browse through my books. Please share your thoughts with me via the contact form below. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Looking for Editing Services?

I offer a variety of services for writers:

  1. Copy (line) editing: word choice, faulty logic, repetition, weak/awkward phrasing, tightening up sentence structure, sharpening language.
  2. Developmental (big picture) editing: moving/deleting whole chapters/characters, tightening theme, location, dialogue, adding literary devices such as foreshadowing and symbolism, rewriting for target audience/tone.
  3. Writing coaching (monthly on Zoom): I'll keep you on a writing schedule with monthly Zooms. We review, discuss, sharpen and plan next steps. Readings and writing exercises are optional.
  4. Manuscript evaluations: I read your work and return it with a 4-8 page report on the major story elements, what's working and what isn't.
  5. Consultations: I offer one-hour Zoom consultations for writers who have questions about any stage of their work, the publication process, agents and query letters.
